Mary Richardson-Lowry

President Mary Richardson-Lowry is a private-sector lawyer whose primary practice area is Public Law. She is a Partner at the law firm of Mayer Brown LLP, one of the ten largest law firms in the world.

Ms. Richardson-Lowry previously served in the public sector as the Buildings Commissioner for the City of Chicago during which she managed a multi-million dollar budget and hundreds of employees tasked with local regulatory obligations. She has also served as Senior Assistant to Mayor Richard M. Daley, Senior Supervising Attorney for the City of Chicago and Assistant Corporation Counsel during which time she was the lead negotiator for the creation of the 911 Emergency Communications Center.

Mayor Richard M. Daley appointed Ms. Richardson-Lowry a Member of the Chicago Board of Education on January 28, 2010. The Board Members, at its meeting on February 24, 2010, then elected her President of the Board of Education of the City of Chicago.

Ms. Richardson-Lowry received her dual bachelor's degree in Speech Communications and International Relations with distinction from San Francisco State University and her Juris Doctor degree from Texas Southern University School of Law, a school she attended in honor of her mother a long-time educator.

Ms. Richardson-Lowry is active in numerous civic organizations, including the Children's Advocacy Center Board and a Commissioner on the Public Building Commission of Chicago. She has been the recipient of numerous awards and honors.
