PBC Chairman Richard M. Daley

Message From the Chairman

PBC Chairman Richard M. Daley
Richard M. Daley, Mayor

The work performed by the Commissioners and staff of the Public Building Commission is not just about bricks and mortar; it is about people.

It is about the children who attend public schools built or renovated by the PBC, and about the patrons of the new branch libraries. It is about the police officers and local residents using the new district stations, about the firefighters who stand ready in their new fire houses, and about everyone who enjoys the parks and playlots that are being built or restored throughout the city.

And it is about looking to the future and seeing the benefits that come as we incorporate sustainable design elements into city projects, reducing our impact on the environment and making the years to come better and healthier for generations to come.

On the PBC's drawing board are people-oriented projects, including new schools for both elementary and high school students, fire houses and police stations that use the advanced technology for improved public safety, and libraries that give residents the opportunity to expand both their visions and their lives.

Each building and recreational area is used by thousands of Chicago and Cook County residents, which is why the Commissioners and staff of the PBC dedicate so much of their time and energy working with our clients to make them as safe, attractive and cost-effective as possible.

There are hundreds of decisions to be made on even the simplest PBC projects, but our commitment and enthusiasm will never dim because the choices we make today can have positive effects on the people of Chicago and Cook County for many decades to come.
