Dr. Robert B. Donaldson II

Dr. Robert B. Donaldson was appointed to the Public Building Commission of Chicago on March 1, 1983 and represents the Cook County Forest Preserve District. He is the agency's first African-American commissioner and for more than 23 years, he has provided oversight of PBC construction and renovation projects while building upon a lengthy career in education, business and public service.

On April 4, 2005, Donaldson was elected mayor and chief executive officer of Hazel Crest, Illinois, a municipality of more than 15,000 residents located 25 miles southwest of Chicago. He is a professor of public administration in the College of Business and Public Administration at Governors State University and also serves as director of the school's Master of Public Administration Programs and Master Thesis Projects and Practicum.

Donaldson's service as an elected official includes a seat on the high school board for School District No. 228 (Bremen Township) in Midlothian, Illinois and a term as a trustee for the Village of Hazel Crest. In 1979, he became the first African-American to be appointed to the Village of Hazel Crest's Zoning Board of Appeals, a position he held for 10 years. He is also a former chairman and chief executive officer of Community Action Services, Inc., a not-for-profit school bus transportation company that served thousands of children from pre-school to high school in metropolitan Cook County and Chicago.

Donaldson is the recipient of numerous awards and honors, including the Illinois Senator Earline Collins Achievement Award, the Black Contractors United Association of Chicago Annual Award, the Black Architect Association of Chicago Award for Outstanding Leadership and he was also recognized by Young Executives in Politics for outstanding contributions.

A graduate of Florida A&M University, Roosevelt University and Western Michigan University, Donaldson is a member of numerous organizations, including the American Society for Public Administration, the National Association of Schools of Pubic Affairs and Administration and the South Suburban Mayors and Managers Association of Southern Cook County. He also serves on the Advocate South Suburban Hospital Board of Governance.
