February 4, 2006 was the grand opening for the new Chicago Lawn Police Station. Mayor Daley cut the ribbon for the new state of the art station, the tenth built by the PBC under the Neighborhoods Alive program.
The $13 million, 42,000 square foot facility replaced one built in 1926. The new station is more then double the size of the old station.
The new station features:
- A new computerized command center;
- A high-tech roll call room to enhance presentations during briefing and training sessions;
- A community meeting room will promote neighborhood involvement;
- A fitness room and updated locker room facilities to help meet the needs of the police department¿s changing workforce; and
- Environmentally friendly features such as reflective roofing to reduce the urban heat island effect, electric car recharging area, and recycled content used in building materials as well as ceiling and floor tiles.

The grand opening for the $15 million, 42,000 square foot Ogden District station was February 5, 2005
The new station is more than twice the size of the existing 10th District (Marquette) station at 2259 South Damen Avenue. Built in 1917, the Marquette station was the second oldest in Chicago. |

| Description: The grand opening for 22nd District Police Station was held Saturday, June 5, 2004.
The new station replaced one that was built in 1938 at 1830 W. Monterey Avenue. Based on prototype design, the new 42,000 sq. ft. station is more than four times the size of the original.

Description: The grand opening for this new 14,000 square-foot branch library was
Saturday, February 8, 2003.
The Budlong Woods Library branch is also the city's first "green" library. The Department of Environment will be sending the needed documents to the US Green Building Council in order to get the library its Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification.
"Green" modifications include:
- Solar panels located on the roof that can provide up to 17 kilowatts of renewable, clean power.
- Energy star compliant, highly reflective roofing material to help keep the building cooler in the summer.
- Concrete pavement for the parking lot instead of black asphalt, also to keep the temperature on site cooler in the summer.
- Building materials, such as carpeting, ceiling tiles, acoustic tiles and gypsum board and steel, have a significant amount of recycled content.
- The building's HVAC high performance integrated system was designed to perform 17-18% better than the Chicago Energy Code.

| Description: Mayor Richard M. Daley joined Barbara Eason-Watkins, CPS Chief Education Officer students, parents and teachers for a ribbon-cutting ceremony on February 5, 2005.
The new $18 million Ellington School, has 28 classrooms and a capacity of about 1,050 students, also includes a separate computer lab, science lab, art room, and music room; a state-of-the-art computer network; an environmentally friendly roof that features a garden area over the gymnasium; an elevator and full accessibility to people with disabilities. It also includes special features that pay homage to legendary musician who is its namesake: a keyboard design on the hallway floors, musical notes on the tree grates outside the building, and a full performance stage in the gymnasium. |

Chicago Center for Green Technology

Description: The Chicago Center for Green Technology (CCGT) was awarded a Platinum Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEEDTM) rating from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). The CCGT is only the third building in the country to receive this prestigious certification, and is the first renovated structure and government owned building to earn this rating.
May 4th, 2002 was the grand opening of this renovated former brownfield site into a model of environmentally friendly design. When complete the building will house a solar panel manufacturer; Greencorps Chicago, Mayor Daley's community gardening and job skills program; and a community design studio for the public.
The building will feature solar and geothermal power, a rooftop garden, a habitat area that filters storm water, and recycled finishing products. The grounds will include city-lot-sized test plots for community gardens and a greenhouse.

The new 14,000-square-foot branch facility, which replaced a storefront library, cost $5 million. It was dedicated June 22, 2004.
The new Oriole Park Library features a comprehensive collection of materials for adults, teens and children, officials said, including Internet access, more than 40 electronic databases, books on tape, newspapers and periodicals. A community room and expanded parking also are planned, and the library will be fully accessible to people with disabilities.

| Description: The new Tarkington Elementary School is the first in the Chicago Public Schools¿ system to have the U.S. Green Building Council's LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification. With a building area approximately 134,000-square-feet, the school sits on a 9.82-acre site.
The new two-story elementary school include art, music and science classrooms, a full-serving kitchen and dining facilities, a multipurpose room and a field house that will be shared by the Chicago Park District. The project also involved improvements to Marquette Park, including a new soccer field.
Winner of a 2007 Citation of Merit for Sustainable Design from AIA Chicago.
