Contract Awarded For New 10th District Police Station

The West Side's 10th Police District will get a new, larger station at 3250 West Ogden Avenue to replace the current World War I-era facility under a contract approved today by the Public Building Commission of Chicago (PBC).

The new police station, funded under Mayor Richard M. Daley's Neighborhoods Alive 21 program, will be built by FH Paschen/SN Nielsen along the south side of Ogden Avenue between Trumbull and Kedzie, officials said. The $13.2 million building will be located between Spaulding and Sawyer avenues, with parking on both ends.

When finished, the new facility will have separate locker rooms for female officers and the building will be completely accessible for people with disabilities, officials said. It will feature state-of-the-art computers and crime-fighting equipment, as well as space for community policing programs.

The new station will be more than twice the size of the existing station, at 2259 South Damen Avenue, which was built in 1917 and now stands as the second-oldest police station in Chicago. Under terms of the contract, FH Paschen/SN Nielsen has committed to a 26 percent level of participation by Minority Business Enterprises and 5 percent participation by Women Business Enterprises, officials said.
