Open House for New Lincoln District Police Station

Residents of the 20th Police District are invited to an Open House at their new police station on the weekend of October 26-27, Mayor Richard M. Daley announced today.

Public tours will be given Saturday, October 26, from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., and on Sunday, October 27, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., officials said.

"The new Lincoln District Police station is designed to meet the needs of 21st century law enforcement with community policing in mind," Daley said. "The station is part of a Lincoln Avenue revitalization that includes the new Budlong Woods Branch Library, under construction two blocks away."

The $14.5 million state-of-the-art police station, at 5400 North Lincoln Avenue, was built by the Public Building Commission of Chicago (PBC), chaired by Mayor Daley. It will replace the Foster District station, at 1940 West Foster Avenue, which was built in 1936. The new 42,000-square-foot facility is four times the size of the old Foster Avenue station, officials said. It will feature a computerized command center, a community meeting room and updated locker room facilities for both male and female officers.

This is the fifth new district station built in the last four years under the mayor's Neighborhoods Alive 21 program. In all, 19 police stations will be replaced or renovated under this ambitious program, officials said.
