    PBC Awards Contracts To Build Two New Branch Libraries

Two new Chicago Public Libraries will be built by the Public Building Commission of Chicago (PBC) under separate contracts awarded today by the PBC Board.

Oakley Construction Company Inc., will build the new Bucktown-Wicker Park Branch Library to be located at 1701 N. Milwaukee under a $4,497,831 construction contract approved by the PBC Board; and, G. F. Structures Corporation will build the new Vodak-East Side Branch Library to be located at 3700 E. 106th Street under a $4,071,814 construction contract also approved today.

Under the terms of the contract, Oakley Construction Company, Inc., has committed to 37 percent participation in the Bucktown-Wicker Park Branch Library project by Minority Business Enterprises and 10 percent participation by Women Business Enterprises. G.F. Structures Corporation has committed to 25 percent participation in the Vodak-East Side Branch Library project by Minority Business Enterprises and 9 percent participation by Women Business Enterprises under the terms of the contract.

Both branch libraries will feature expanded collections of materials for adults, teens, and children, including Internet access, electronic databases, audio books, newspapers, and magazines.

The PBC routinely designs and builds new library facilities for the Chicago Public Library. Mayor Richard M. Daley serves as chairman of the PBC.
