The Public Building Commission (PBC) Board today approved a $19.3 million construction contract for the new Albany Park Middle School.

Under the terms of the contract approved by the PBC, Pacific Construction Services will build the new school, which will be located at 4929 N. Sawyer Ave. Pacific Construction Services has committed to approximately 25 percent participation in the project by Minority Business Enterprises and 5 percent participation by Women Business Enterprises, officials said.

The new three-story middle school will include 26 classrooms and accommodate 720 students. With a building area of approximately 104,000-square-feet, the school will sit on a 4.5-acre site.

In addition, the new Albany Park school will be built to meet the U.S. Green Building Council's standards for LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification. In support of Mayor Richard M. Daley's effort to make Chicago the most environmentally friendly city in the nation, "green" building strategies are integrated into the design phase of every PBC project.

The PBC manages construction and renovation projects for the Chicago Public Schools as well as the City of Chicago and its other sister agencies. Mayor Daley serves as the PBC's chairman. Other actions taken Tuesday by the PBC Board are listed on the PBC's web site at www.pbcchicago.com.
