A new $15.8 million Anderson Community Academy will be built on the South Side for the Chicago Public Schools under a construction contract approved by the Public Building Commission of Chicago (PBC).

Under terms of a contract approved Tuesday, October 1, Novak Construction will build the three-story school at 6315 South Claremont Avenue, PBC officials said. The 108,000-square-foot facility will include 28 classrooms, science and computer labs, a cafeteria, gymnasium, library, art and music rooms and additional special education classrooms.

Also, the PBC is building a new Paul Cuffe Elementary School, at 83rd Street and Racine Avenue, which is expected to be completed and open for the 2003-2004 school year, officials said. And last summer, the PBC agreed to undertake construction of another facility, Oscar DePriest Elementary School, a $14.7 million project at 139 South Parkside Avenue.

The PBC routinely designs and builds new schools and improves existing facilities for the public schools and currently manages about $75 million of the schools' development program, PBC officials said. Mayor Richard M. Daley chairs the PBC.
