PBC To Build New Campus Park

A public elementary school on the South Side will see a new campus park built by the Public Building Commission of Chicago under a plan approved today by the PBC, officials said.

PBC Board members awarded a $676,000 contract to R&W Clark Construction Inc., to build the Yale School Campus Park at 7925 South Princeton Avenue. Clark Construction has committed to at least 25 percent minority business enterprise participation in the project and 5 percent participation by women business enterprises, officials said. In addition, minorities will perform 50 percent of the hours worked at the site, while women will perform 10 percent of the hours.

The PBC routinely designs and builds new schools and improves existing facilities for the public schools and currently manages about $75 million of the schools' development program, PBC officials said. Mayor Richard M. Daley chairs the PBC.

Under Daley's Campus Parks Program, the City, Chicago Public Schools and the Chicago Park District are at work replacing asphalt and concrete around schools with open space and landscaping. The result is a campus park that also may include playgrounds, basketball or tennis courts, ball fields and tracks, officials said.
