A new Haugan Middle School will be built on the Northwest Side for the Chicago Public Schools by the Public Building Commission of Chicago under a proposal approved today by the PBC Board.

The new school, located at 3729 West Leland Avenue, will be designed and built by the PBC, according to Kevin Gujral, PBC executive director.

The PBC designs and builds new schools and improves existing facilities for the public schools and currently manages about $260 million of the schools' development program, PBC officials said. Mayor Richard M. Daley chairs the PBC.

Also today, the PBC Board agreed to undertake construction of four new campus parks on behalf of the Chicago Park District, CPS and the City of Chicago.

The new campus parks will be built at elementary schools on the West, Northwest and North Sides, officials said. The improvements, including new play surfaces and playground equipment, will be made at:

  • Corkery School, 2510 South Kildare Avenue
  • Goudy School, 5120 North Winthrop
  • Grant School, 145 South Campbell Avenue
  • Rogers School, 7345 North Washtenaw
