PBC To Build Two New Public Schools

A new high school will be built in the Little Village area and a new Duke Ellington elementary school will rise on the West Side under plans approved today by the Public Building Commission of Chicago (PBC).

PBC Board members voted to accept two construction projects requested by the Chicago Public Schools: a new Little Village high school at 31st Street and Kostner Avenue, and the new Duke Ellington Elementary School at Fulton Street and Parkside Avenue. Plans call for expanded classroom space, updated computer and science labs, libraries and gymnasiums at the sites, officials said.

The PBC designs and builds new schools, improves existing facilities for the public schools, and currently manages about $160 million of the schools' development program, PBC officials said. Mayor Richard M. Daley chairs the PBC.
