PBC Awards Contract For New West Pullman Library

A new Chicago Public Library branch in the West Pullman area will be built under a $4.7 million contract approved today by the Public Building Commission of Chicago (PBC).

The PBC Board approved a contract for the new library to be built by FH Paschen/SN Neilsen Construction Company, of Chicago. The one-story library, to be located at 800 West 119th Street, will provide approximately 14,000 square feet, Kevin Gujral, PBC executive director, said.

The new West Pullman Park Branch Library will feature a comprehensive collection of materials for adults, teens and children, officials said, including Internet access, more than 40 electronic databases, books on tape, newspapers and periodicals. A community room and expanded parking also are planned, and the library will be accessible to people with disabilities.

Under terms of the contract, Paschen/Neilsen has committed to at least 25 percent participation in the project by Minority Business Enterprises and 5 percent participation by Women Business Enterprises, officials said.
