PBC Awards Contracts For Senior Centers In Roseland, Austin and Englewood

The Public Building Commission of Chicago today awarded a $6.1 million contract to build three new senior satellite centers, two on the South Side and one on the West Side, that will serve the Roseland, Austin and Englewood areas.

A contract was awarded to Fredrickson/KRJ for construction of three community centers designed to serve the elderly. The Senior Satellite Centers will provide seniors with places close to home where they may gather with friends, learn computer and other skills, exercise, have lunch and socialize, officials said.

These senior centers are the first to be built as part of Mayor Daley's $20 million satellite center commitment. In all, 10 centers will be built at a cost of approximately $2 million each, officials said. The three new centers are: Roseland Senior Center, at 49 East 95th Street; Austin Senior Center, 5071 West Congress Boulevard; and Englewood Senior Center, 653 West 63rd Street.

The new centers will supplement Regional Senior Centers at 2101 West Ogden Avenue and 1767 East 78th Street. These first three centers are being built in communities that were determined to have the most need, based on number of seniors and availability of other programs, official said.
