PBC Approves Contract For New West Side Community Center

A new $14.3 million community center will be built in the ABLA Homes/Fosco Park area under a contract approved today by the board of the Public Building Commission of Chicago (PBC), which is chaired by Mayor Richard M. Daley.

The 59,000-square-foot community center will be built at 1312 South Racine Avenue by Novak Construction, officials said. Plans for the facility include a day-care center for 96 children, multi-purpose rooms, an indoor swimming pool and a softball field. Novak has committed to Minority Business Enterprise participation of 25 percent and 5 percent participation by Women Business Enterprises, officials said.

Several agencies will participate in the community center project, including the Chicago Housing Authority, the Chicago Park District, the City of Chicago and the Chicago Public Schools. It is expected to be completed in the summer of 2004.
