Chicago Military Academy - Bronzeville - 3533 South Giles
|
The Public Building Commission has enjoyed a long-standing association with the Chicago Public Schools. Routinely, the PBC designs and builds new educational facilities, creates additions, and annexes, and makes renovations to existing buildings. The PBC presently manages approximately $75 million of work for the Chicago Public Schools' Development Program.
A centerpiece of this working relationship is the recent $18.5 million rehabilitation project of the historic Bronzeville Eighth Regiment Armory. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, it was the first U.S. armory built for an African-American regiment, housing the "Fighting Eighth" regiment of the Illinois National Guard from 1915 to the 1950s.
Several large-scale projects are currently underway, including the design and construction of Cermak Elementary School/National Teaching Academy, Davis-Shields Elementary School, and the Chicago Military Academy-Bronzeville Annex.
