Mayor Rahm Emanuel introduced an ordinance that would authorize the execution of a Lease governing the City’s use of property located at 5151 North Kimball Avenue. The property located at 5151 North Kimball Avenue is a parking lot which is owned by North Park University. If approved by City Council, the Chicago Public Library would operate a Book Mobile from the property.

“The Book Mobile will provide residents with essential library services right in their neighborhood until the completion of the new Albany Park library,” said Mayor Rahm Emanuel.

The Public Building Commission is constructing the new Albany Park Branch of the Chicago Public Library at 5150 North Kimball Avenue. The new library branch is scheduled to open in 2014.

Under the proposed lease, the Chicago Public Library would operate a Book Mobile from the property across the street at 5151 North Kimball Avenue.

The proposed lease provides the City with free access a portion of the North Park University Parking lot located at 5151 North Kimball Avenue through December 31, 2014. The rent is $1.00 for the term of the lease. The City would be responsible for operation of the Book Mobile. The ordinance authorizes the execution of the lease upon City Council approval. Either party may cancel the agreement at any time with 30 days’ written notice.
